JAS is currently looking for local/ international volunteers to start within its volunteering program.
JAS recognizes that when matched with a suitable volunteer either as a mentor or in another regular volunteering capacity who can give the student the gift of time and attention, students are more likely to make an extra effort to go to school and engage in their education, which sees them build resilience to be able to cope with the challenges life throws at them. Our services are designed to improve student’s literacy, life skills, self-esteem and self-confidence which contribute to improving learning outcomes and improved student achievements. This is coupled with improvements to volunteer health and wellbeing benefits.
JAS is looking for volunteers with the time, talent and passion to work with students after school – informal educational activities -in both primary and secondary school settings in a general volunteering capacity. By its nature, this role may be more variable and caters to the need of the school for volunteer support that complements the teaching and mentoring roles.
JAS defines general volunteering as “implementing tasks, or providing services for the school community without financial recompense and in a role that does not replace a paid member of staff (teacher, classroom assistant, trainers, or school administrator)”.
Whilst learning support volunteering can take many forms within the schools, JAS would consider this role to include providing assistance to a classroom teacher or other school staff in a non-teaching role, providing assistance in the after-school activities, helping develop the AP Capstone diploma program, school fundraising, assisting at school sports days, carnivals and other events, helping operate the School Art club, STEM lab, and assisting paid staff with the logistic and coordination tasks.
Time Commitment: Volunteers are required to commit a minimum of 3 -6 months, with the option for renewal. The positions are available both full-time and part-time, with a minimum of 4 hours per day.
Note: the volunteering program offers international volunteers, a modest stipend, accommodation, travel costs of a return ticket, visa expenses reimbursement and a unique living and working experience in Jerusalem.
Volunteering opportunities are open all year round
